2001 Blazer LT. While driving home in a pretty good snowstorm the
other night, the rear washer apparently goes kaput. Plenty of washer
fluid in the reservoir (front washers work ok), and I can hear the
pump motor "working" when I push the button on the dash, but no fluid
to the rear window.

Anyone want to make a diagnosis and suggest the fix?

Thanks!

Mark

Common one is a plugged rear nozzle, next common problem is the line
breaking at the junction inside the headliner (on vehicles with the
large rear hatch) or under the rear floor mat on the tailgate equipped
ones. My usual first step is to put a chunk of air hose over the nozzle
and apply 5-10 pounds of air and see if I can get bubbles in the
reservoir. If yes then it was probably blocked. If no you listen/feel
for the leak. The lines coming apart makes a MESS under the carpet or
inside the headliner.

It was finally warm enough today for me to go out and dink around with
it a little bit. I checked the nozzle and the plastic tubing at the
wiper end and all seemed well. Then, I turned the key on and tried
the pump switch again. Since I was standing outside of the vehicle
when I did this, I noticed that the sound of the pump motor seemed
extraordinarily loud, so I lifted the hood and discovered that the
fluid tank was bone dry. Thinking that maybe I was a real idiot and
that, in fact, the only fix was just filling an empty tank, I topped
it off with fresh wiper fluid. It took almost 3/4 of the gallon jug I
had.

Alas, within seconds the whole works was dripping onto my garage
floor from underneath the vehicle. So, it would appear that either my
tank is cracked or there is a bad line somewhere. Damn!

Thanks to all those who offered suggestions.
